There's lots of photo threads with various themes, but I thought it was time we had a collection of early Mazda's with wheel arch flares.

Some are good, some are bad, some are for a purpose and some aren't, but lets see how many different types we can find.

This is one of my all time favourite Savannas. It is allegedly wearing what some people in Japan call ultra rare Mazda Factory Race rims (some sites call them Mazdaspeed rims, but Mazdaspeed came much later), unfortunately I've never been able to find a decent pic showing the wheels. These are the only pics I have of it.

I would do unspeakable things to own this car.

Those flares which are pretty much identical to the ones our Group C RX-'s wore, are by far the best size and shape, and with funky wide 13's look awesome.

I love that red RX-3, just needs chrome bumpers IMHO.

Anyone know if it is an ex Group C car, it has the period Simmons and all?

Very interesting story with that car.

It was the ex Larry Kogge Group C car that was 'imported' into Tas in about 85/6 where it was raced as a Touring Car amongst the sports sedan, a steering arm broke during a race and it hit a bank. It was reshelled and never raced again. It was turned into a street car and eventually left the state with it's owner in the late 90's. I was recontacted recently as it has resurfaced and is currently being restored by a certain enthusiast with a big collection of race cars. ;)

"The car was the ex Lakis Manticas / Alan Grice / Geoff Leeds / Larry Kogge Gp C car "

Here's a few pics from when it was recently rediscovered/rescued:

You'd need pretty big flares to clear them, not to mention the trouble trying to find 235x50x13" tyres!

They are the sort of wheels you build a car around. Would kill for a set.

Avon make a street legal 245/50/13, the CR500, that would do nicely.

Serious love for that RX-3, what a piece of history.

The the ex Lakis Manticas / Alan Grice / Geoff Leeds / Larry Kogge Gp C car is currently on the market for a reasonable price.

A couple of mates are currently looking at buying it to restore it to the Alan Grice Mazda House/ Craven Mild Group C, for Heritage Touring Car racing as it still had a log book.

But there is a question mark over it's eligibility as it was re shelled after it's group c days.

Will keep you posted.

Interesting info on the ex Grice car, I wonder what a "reasonable" price is?

Here's another flared RX-3 from the New Zealand. Very Group C looking, 13" Simmons wheels and all, I wonder what its history was?
