Mines been resprayed "ford Cobalt blue" which obviously doesn't help identify the original colour.

There wasn't any identifying colour under the rear seats when I put the stereo in, I'll take a look at the chassis rails at the rear this weekend and see if i can see some of the original paint around there...

Be interesting to see Cam! :)

Thanks Roland.

I've actually got all the first gen brochures, but none of them have a colour card/leaflet included.

What are the codes for the two-tone grey and two-tone gold S3s?

I've been wanting to know this for a while too. I love the 2-tone S3s, especially the brown/gold. =P~

I am pretty sure my 1984 Series III was originally a Two Tone Gold. At the moment it is only painted in gold, and it is pretty easy to see that the body work (where the brown tone was) has been sprayed with the gold. In addition, I have never seen my paint code anywhere and some time ago had concluded that this must have been Two Tone Gold.

In any case, my paint code details are:

Year: Series III 1984
Colour Name: Two Tone Gold/Brown
Code: QY

As mentioned, I have not been able to locate QY anywhere, including this URL http://www.rotorhead.ca/topic.php?fldr=tech&cntnt=paint.

I noticed from the earlier post below also, that the first letter Q is consistent with the Two Tone silver, which is QK.

More info on the two-tone silver code QK.

QK consists of K3 (Sunbeam Silver) and K8 (Tornado Silver).

What I am trying to still work out is which of the Gold paint codes (M3, M4, M5) was used?

I will try to post an image of my SIII when I get a digital shot... of course, I cannot confirm 100% that the code QY is definately the Two Tone Gold/Brown, since the paint has slightly changed, but it is likely...

Through trial and error have worked out that the gold color is "M5 - Maya Gold". Still not sure what the code for the Brown color for the Two Tone is though....

Thanks for the update. Are you planning on respraying the lower part of your car in the factory brown, or are you just curious?

I am actually in the middle of restoring my series III (engine is next) and had not thought about what to do with the two tones. It looks quite good in all gold and I was never really a big fan of the two tone look of the 80's. I guess the main idea now is to fully restore this RX7, so I might eventually splash the second tone on.

As a side note, looking at the paint charts, It looks like the second tone will be either "T5 - Havana" or "T9 - New Trad". From the old paint inside the fuel lid (one area that was not re-sprayed), it looks to be one of these two.
